Day 12: Yoga X, Part 2

in Workout

The last time I did Yoga X, I sweated my butt off. This time was no different. The workout did not hit me as hard as last time. The good news is that I am way more flexible than when I did my fit test.

Today I was actually able to touch my toes doing the hamstring stretch. That is too cool. Not bad for 12 days into the program.

People have even noticed that I am starting to tone up. I wish I could say that I have lost weight. Instead, I have actually gained a bit. I have read that people usually lose the weight in the recovery week. (Week 4.)

I have started to take the train to work again. That way I can get in walking exercise as well. Strap a backpack with books, a laptop and water to your back and do the 15 minute trek through the famous underground city, followed by a good 10 minute walk in the city streets. I like to take the stairs on my tip toes, that way I work my calves.

It is really ironic. Now that I am working out, I find more ways to become more active. When I was just sitting around eating chips or ice cream all the time, I could find a billion excuses to avoid working out. Hell, it was a chore to get me to go for a walk some days. Now, I look forward to my routines with the same excitement I have making a dish.

It truly is three things:

  1. Real Food
  2. Real Exercise
  3. Real Health

Till tomorrow, BRING IT!

Apparently one of the reasons that most people do not lose weight when beginning an exercise program is that muscle weighs more than fat. So as you are increasing your muscle mass, you are gaining weight. However, muscle burns more energy at “rest” and eventually the weight will come down. I think your response to the “wake-up call” has been great. I also must get off the couch more! …Cathy

@Cathy – Thank you for your kind words. People tell me it is the muscle that weighs more, and to not worry about the scale. It is indeed true. This morning, my belt fit one notch tighter. I am very happy about that. I find that if I happen to miss my workout, I want to jump right back into it.
The amazing part here is that I am on my 18th day of work straight, and I still have the energy to do my workout. That in itself testifies to the “get off the couch” to get started mentality. I never believed it before, but I sure do npw.
