To all of my guests here on WDC, have a happy, safe new year. All the best in the new year – to the best of health, happiness, and prosperity.
New Years Day Traditions
I’ll be at a family member’s house tonight eating roasted pork, sauerkraut, and Houskove Knedliky. (A dumpling made of flour, yeast and bread cubes that is poached.) Tradition used to call for a soup/stoup of poached pig head, but my, how we’ve gotten away from the times!
In our tradition, we are forbidden to eat “fowl” on New Years Day – as our luck will fly away in the new year. (As if still eating all that left over turkey wouldn’t be the reason.) Instead we are to eat Lentils, which bring prosperity. It has nothing to do with organic chicken being expensive, and lentils dirt cheap. I promise!
