in Call To Action!

You didn’t think that I would leave the men out of the deal, right? These jackets are HOT! I am waiting to get mine, (As soon as I get off my ass and call them – they also do custom embroidery!)

The Jacket Is a Symbol

As anyone knows, a chef jacket is what really sets us apart from those who cook at home. As soon as you put it on, you are on stage.

Funny story – I remember one time I was working away in the saucier kitchen, and I had finally finished my shift after 12 hours. I was standing in the Chef’s office talking to my Sous chef Skully. He took one look at my apron, and jacket, (which was covered in the day’s work – but appeared to be shit,) and shook his head.

“What the fuck is wrong with you man? Look at your jacket!”

I looked down at my jacket, and unapologetically replied, “Yah, but I’m working hard here.”

“You look like a fucking pig. Your jacket shows you respect the career. How can I work the whole day, doing twice the amount of work as you, but still remain clean?”

Yes, I was embarrassed. I learned respect for the uniform that day, and since then, no matter how busy I am, my jacket always remains clean.

The worst mess I ever got on my Chef coat was when I was teaching at The French Culinary Institute. I was making Morcilla with my students and when we were putting the mixture into the casings I was explaining that importance of keeping even pressure and not cranking the stuffer to hard or fast. As I was saying this the student I had working the crank of the machine pushed down on the crank really hard the casing broke and I was sprayed with the mixture. It was all over my Chef coat, apron, face, and Chef hat. I looked like I just murdered someone with a chainsaw and machine gun simultaneously!

I think one of the worst mess i’ve ever got in my chef’s jacket was when i was when i was working at the pan pacific hotel , i was relieving the butcher on his vacation and i have to portion 450 , 6 oz. NY steak for the banquet function that night and my jacket was covered in blood ,i looked like i was the axe murderer.

@Ariel – Nice. Nothing like the old butcher shop to wreck a jacket, that’s for sure.

@ Jason – absolutely!! I learned my lesson, now i always make sure i got a full length apron whenever i work in the butcher shop.
