Whoa! 2010 is here, and it looks like I am slacking! Seriously though, everyone is on vacation, so it is left to me to tend shop. There have been a few long hours. It is worth it in the end though, that is for sure.
I have been thinking about goals a lot over the last couple of weeks. I recently listened to the audio course “The Laws of Success.”
Inside that course was something very profound. The whole basis of the laws are the distillation of one thing: the golden rule. You can only be driven or drive yourself there when you learn your Chief Aim in life. Raison d’etre as they say. I think I have it figured out. More on that at a later post.
What I want to share with you is a neat thing that I came across. Elle over at Elle’s New England Kitchen is participating in a photo a day for a year.
I am so inspired at the idea of this, that I would like to participate in that. There are a couple of caveats though:
- I do not own a dSLR camera, and I do not plan on purchasing one. I have a Blackberry phone, so I guess I will have to deal.
- I also might forget a day. Rest assured, I will take the photos though, so if that happens, I will be sure to post the photo in sequence.
- I imagine that the photos will be a lot of relation to the best things in my life – my son, cooking, family, and my house. Knowing me, I will need to have a little story to explain the photo, so that you are all on the same page as me.
- I am hoping that I will have something to teach with these photos as well.
So, here is a glimpse into my twisted mind. I hope you like the ride as much as I do.
Confucious said, "Don't complain about the snow on your neighbor's roof when your own doorstep is unclean."
Picture Of the Day: 1/365

Here is the story:
I used to work with a gentleman (Mr. M.) who was, well, less than clean. He has since left the employ of the hotel. Now, I remember one day the other gentleman (Mr. P) that I work with in management sent me an email complaining that the freezer was left in such a state of disrepair that he could not stand it. See, it was my day off, and so Mr. P was seething, and stated that this would have never happened had I been there, and Mr. M. was nothing more than scrap.
Now, this relates back to the golden rule – and it is not just treat others how you would treat yourself. This goes into another form of respect. It goes into character. See, I am of the opinion that if you call attention to something, you had best follow through with keeping it up on your own, or you are the one that is scrap.
Now, Mr. M. was let go a full month before this picture was taken, and so Mr. P. has no recourse at this point to say anything. Indeed, this state of this fridge is worse than the time Mr. P. complained of Mr. M.’s job. Granted, we were busy, but remember- Mr. P. is the one who called on the quality of the other’s work.
Day one of the year starts me off with inventory, and before I can do that, I need to clean up this mess.
In my eyes, there is no excuse for the state of this freezer. No comment, justification or anything else can save this person’s level of respect with me. I am treating him by the golden rule now, holding him to exactly how he treated the other guy.
I think it is fair, and now I have a picture to remind me of that.
What do you all think of this?

I’ll tell you something. SippitySup was nominated for Best Photography this year at the FoodBuzz awards. I also have a very good publication record at TasteSpotting and FoodGawker. But I use a 100 dollar point and shoot camera for all my posts. The point is, it’s not “what” you see, it’s “how” you see it. I have been reading this space long enough to know that you have the POV of an artist! You and your blackberry go forth and conquer. GREG
@GREG – Thank you for the words of confidence! With them I shall go forth and conquer!
